Cost
When a player decides to upgrade an item, they have to pay Gold for the upgrade. The cost of upgrading an item varies based on the item's current level and type of upgrade. For instance, upgrading a weapon will typically be cheaper than upgrading armor because weapons require lower levels of skill. The amount of Gold needed increases as an item is upgraded.
Upgraded items will also have upgraded stats that will improve its performance in various ways. This could mean increasing the power of its attack and critical strike chance or damage per second. Additionally an upgraded item might be able to provide extra buffs to the unit it is equipped with. These upgrades can be utilized for a variety of reasons, including to boost the overall strength of a particular or group unit. They can also be a significant influence on gameplay.
Items can be upgraded at any NPC that is an upgrader in the game. Typically, these NPCs are located in capital cities or major questing areas. Players can also find upgraders by visiting dungeons with high-level bosses, or by talking to NPCs in their garrisons for their faction.

Rerolling upgraded items is only possible if the item was upgraded was Epic, Rare, or Unique. Extraordinary items can also be rerolled, however the original stats are replaced with a flat-rate bonus. This means that rerolling a Rare item will result in a Normal version the same type, whereas the rerolling of an Epic item will result in an elite version of the same kind.
An upgraded item may also come with additional modifiers, which could further boost its stats and enhance its performance. These additional modifiers are not included in the upgrade cost. A player can reroll an item into another upgradeable item by selecting it and pressing the green button an arrow that indicates reroll. This will alter the layout of the game and let players select up to six items to be used for "recycling". The item will be replaced by one of the level 1 items. Recycled items will not keep their status or the amount of resources used to upgrade them.
The highest level of upgrade an item can achieve is determined by its quality and tier.
